Grosjean and Petrov at Barwa Addax

NEWS STORY
26/02/2009

Following the departure of team owner Adrian Campos, the reigning 2008 GP2 Series Champions Barwa International Campos Team have decided to change their name to Barwa Addax Team for 2009. Qatari Barwa has been their main sponsor for over a year now while an Addax is an antelope whose characteristics are great speed and resistance to extreme conditions.

Barwa Addax Team will be looking at grabbing another title this season and they are counting on two of the best and most experienced drivers in the GP2 field: Vitaly Petrov (right) and Romain Grosjean. This will be the third season with the Spanish team for Petrov.

Vitaly Petrov said: "For me, this new season will be probably the most important and difficult. I'm really happy to stay one more year with Barwa Addax Team. I hope that together with my new team-mate Romain we can repeat last season's result and remain the strongest team in GP2. Personally I'm well-prepared for serious work together with my engineers and mechanics."

Romain Grosjean added: "I am very delighted to drive for Barwa Addax Team in 2009. It is an exciting challenge to be competing for the 2008 GP2 Series Champions and we have high expectations for the season to come. They have welcomed me warmly and I really feel that together we will be able to work efficiently and successfully from the get go."

Alejandro Agag commented: "The success we have had up to now means that we have felt obliged to put our faith in two drivers of contrasting talents. Vitaly has been with us for three seasons now and we are very happy with him. We know each other perfectly and we know that he will bring us important points in the Teams' championship and provide us with great moments like his victory in Valencia and, who is to say that he won´t be fighting for the drivers' championship? There is very little to say about Romain having already reached Formula 1 status, in one of the best teams in the field. We shall offer him a car that will give him the opportunity to demonstrate, not for the first time, his undoubted talent. We are convinced that we have done everything right to ensure that Barwa Addax Team remains at the top of the GP2 class."
