Silverstone Preview: DPR

NEWS STORY
01/07/2008

David Price Racing (DPR) heads to the Silverstone Circuit in Britain this weekend for the team's home race on the 2008 GP2 Calendar. Romanian-born Michael Herck will be back in the DPR car for only his second outing and alongside him will be DPR regular, Brazilian Diego Nunes. This weekend DPR will be aiming for a home advantage in front of the sell-out British crowd as they support the F1 Grand Prix at the historic circuit in Northamptonshire.

At the previous round in Magny Cours, France the team had a mixed weekend. Nunes had a strong Feature race with his best qualifying performance of the season, whilst Herck retired from the first race due to the wrist injury which had forced him to sit out the season until the Magny Cours weekend. During the second race mixed weather shaped the outcome, but it was ultimately technical problems that forced Nunes to retire, while Herck drove well to finish in 15th place.

The Silverstone Circuit is built on the site of a World War II bomber base, RAF Silverstone, which opened in 1943. The airfield's three runways, in classic WWII triangle format, lie within the outline of the present track. Silverstone first hosted a Grand Prix in 1948 and it has been held on the circuit every year since 1987. The full Grand Prix configuration which will be used by the GP2 and the F1 cars this weekend is 5.1km long and is a technically demanding high speed circuit.

Team Principal David Price commented ahead of the weekend, "We are really looking forward to going to Silverstone this weekend, there is a terrific atmosphere on race day and the British crowds are very vocal with their support. We love coming to our home race and it makes it extra special for us, we are hoping that a touch of the home advantage will help us to score a good result this weekend. Silverstone is a challenging circuit and it will be tough for our drivers to go out and be on the pace straight away, but both of them have experience here, so that will help us.

"Michael's problems with his wrist flared up again last weekend, but he did well to come back from it and finish the second race in Magny Cours. He has limited experience in the GP2 car, but he showed consistency and is learning quickly, so we hope he can get two more complete race distances behind him at Silverstone this weekend."
