Germany hopes to round off season with strong showing

Willi Weber's A1 Team Germany will have a special A1GP World Cup of Motorsport finale at Brands Hatch between 2 and 4 May: A year ago the German team came to the finale, staged at the circuit close to London, as freshly crowned champions and promptly won the feature race. This year, Germany travels to Brands Hatch as current title holders – but, however, in the certainty of being unable to defend the World Cup won there in the 2006/2007.

The Swiss national team clearly leads the 2007/2008 championship with 150 points, only New Zealand has a mathematical chance of taking the spoils. With a maximum of 32 points on offer each race weekend, the Pacific team's chances are only of a theoretical nature since they trail Switzerland by 29 points.

"We defended the A1GP title for one year," explains Willi Weber. "We also had good chances of a top position this season. But unfortunately the tide turned against us. We nevertheless have plenty to be proud of: We celebrated two wins this year, defended the title long into the season, and can now look forward to Brands Hatch where traditionally fantastic races in a great atmosphere have been held. We want to bid farewell to the season with a good result – hopefully in front of packed grandstands."

Michael Ammermuller, the 22-year professional racing driver from Pocking, will once again take the cockpit. The Bavarian, who has won one race to date in Zhuhai in December, makes his seventh competitive outing for the A1 Team Germany. "Obviously, it would be fantastic to finish the season with top result," says Ammermuller. "Brands Hatch is the perfect place for this: It's a historical race track which blends perfectly into the landscape. The elevation changes are very challenging. There are blind crests, tight corners and exceedingly fast sections."
