Carroll determined to get back to the sharp end

Belmayne A1 Team Ireland heads to Durban, South Africa for round seven of the 2007/08 A1GP World Cup of Motorsport next weekend with Adam Carroll (right) determined to get back to the sharp end of the grid.

A disappointing weekend in Australia meant the team came away from Eastern Creek with no points for the first time this season. A crack in the tub discovered after Friday practice meant an overnight chassis change and the team were on the back-foot from then on. Putting the meeting firmly behind them, the team now feel confident that they can get back to front-running form and are keen to show their potential as A1GP descends on Durban next weekend.

Durban poses a new challenge to the series as the 500 bhp cars will be powering round a twisty 3.3-kilometre street circuit. The temporary track was designed specifically for A1GP and held its first race in January 2006. The tight 11-corner layout enclosed by walls, leaves little room for error and is considered one of the most difficult circuits of the season, but with a proven track record on street circuits, having triumphed at Monaco in GP2, Adam is ready for the unique challenge ahead.

Dublin racer, Niall Quinn is also reconfirmed as rookie driver after impressing the team in Australia with his maturity in the cockpit. The team is looking forward to working with him again as he gets to experience the challenging streets of Durban.

Ahead of all the racing action, Adam Carroll will be joining a group his A1GP competitors to visit one of Food4Africa's charitable projects near Durban. Adam will visit the Mount Moriah Ministries Care and Support Centre, a charitable organisation that cares for disadvantaged children in the surrounding community. The centre provides free basic needs of food, medication and education in a safe and caring environment for over 200 children from babies to seven-year-olds. The A1GP drivers will travel to the centre on Wednesday (20 February) to learn about the work being done their and to meet some of the children.

Adam Carroll: I'm looking forward to Durban, I haven't raced on a street circuit for a while and from what I've seen of it looks good and we should have a good weekend. I'm looking forward to the challenges a street circuit brings. Street circuits have always suited my driving style and I've always gone well on them, winning at Monaco. The walls being so close are something different but you just have to respect them.

Niall Quinn: It's great to be invited back to join Belmayne A1 Team Ireland for Durban. I really enjoyed my time with the team in Australia and I'm really delighted that I have been given another chance. Durban is going to be challenging but I have raced at the Norisring in Germany so I have some experience of street circuits, and I'm sure that will help me.

Dan Walmsley, Race Engineer: We are trying to bounce back from a disappointing weekend at eastern creek a lot of which was down to factors outside our control so we're feeling very positive about going to Durban. It's a tight walled street circuit so its going to be crucial to keep the car out the barrier but it's also a place that will suit Adam's driving style. We think we have a good set up for there and are confident we can get a result. Its something the team is very keen to achieve to get moral up and show everyone what we're really capable of. Our southern hemisphere trip didn't really reflect our true potential and it's a good opportunity for us to now go and put that right.
