Pakistan hungry for more points

NEWS STORY
30/01/2008

A1 Team Pakistan are eager to add to their points tally this weekend, following a successful outing in New Zealand, where Adam Khan (right) recorded the team's first point of the season. The team remain ‘down under' for the sixth round of the 2007/08 championship, at the Eastern Creek circuit on the outskirts of Sydney, Australia.

Last time out in New Zealand, a reinvigorated A1 Team Pakistan was on the attack, finishing in 11th place in the Sprint race and just out of the points. The team continued the good form in the 70 minute Feature race and following the disqualification of A1 Team USA, took tenth place and one point – the team's first point of the 2007/08 season.

While the majority of the A1GP drivers chose to stay in New Zealand or Australia in- between races, Adam Khan was back in racing action last weekend, taking part in the first race of the GP2 Series Asian Series in Dubai. In only his first GP2 event, Khan showed great potential finishing his second race in a strong 15th place, out of 25 of the world's best young drivers.

Located 40 minutes from the beautiful city of Sydney, the Eastern Creek circuit is the hub of motorsport in New South Wales, hosting both the hugely popular Australian V8 Supercar Championship and regular motorcycle races. A1GP returns to Eastern Creek for the third time this weekend; the circuit having been a regular venue on the calendar since the series' inception in 2005.

With attention now turning back to A1GP, Khan is eager to get back in his Pakistan racing machine in Australia. Speaking ahead of the weekend, Khan said, "I'm really looking forward to getting back in the car in Australia. The GP2 Asia race went well, and of course any extra racing experience will help me develop into a better driver and with no race clashes, I think my GP2 Asia programme complements A1GP. "

We showed a good level of improvement in New Zealand. In both races we were knocking on the door of a points finish, and I was able to enjoy some really close racing. Due to the disqualification of USA we were able to pick up a point in New Zealand, but I'd like to build on that in Australia and score some more points on merit. I drove at Eastern Creek in the first season of A1GP, it's an interesting circuit to drive, very narrow and undulating, so I'm looking forward to getting on track on Friday."

A1 Team Pakistan seatholder Arif Husain added, "The team did a great job in scoring the first point of the season in New Zealand. There is a renewed determination to add to our points' tally in Australia and I think we stand a good chance of another strong finish this weekend."
