Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo has said that should Lewis Hamilton win the Drivers' Championship this year, their title would be tainted.

di Montezemolo had made no secret of the fact that he beleives that with McLaren having been excluded from the Constructors' Championship for its role in the spy saga, its drivers should have been punished also.

Pri9or to last month's WMSC hearing in Paris, the Ferrari President admitted that he would be delighted should his team win the World Championship 'off track', as a result of any punishment meted out to McLaren. Following the Belgian GP - which took place just a couple of days after the hearing - the di Montezemolo dedicated the win to the English copyshop employee who tipped off Ferrari when Trudy Coughlan attempted to have 780 pages of Ferrari documentation printed off.

"I still think that in the spying affair it was a big mistake not to disqualify the McLaren drivers as well," di Montezemolo told the Gazzetta dello Sport website. "It means that if Hamilton wins the championship, he will also win it thanks to Ferrari because there is a lot of Ferrari in his car."

Interestingly, di Montezemolo makes no mention of Alonso, which means that either he's written off the Spaniard's chances, or a 'night of the long knives' cull at Maranello will see Jean Todt depart and Alonso partnering either Raikkonen or Massa.
