Teams to discuss end to qualifying 'fuel burn'

NEWS STORY
05/09/2007

Speaking on his team's latest podcast, Renault technical director Bob Bell has revealed that teams are working towards an agreement whereby the controversial 'fuel burn' phase in the final round of qualifying is scrapped.

At a time when the sport is looking to become environmentally friendly, the phase, whereby fuel is deliberately burned off, is an embarrassment.

"It's a completely strange thing to do given we're all becoming eco-friendly," said Bell, who revealed that the teams will meet tomorrow in Monza to discuss alternative solutions for the final phase of the session.

"The so-called fuel burning is no good," he admitted, and we're talking about that tomorrow with a view to getting rid of it for 2008."
