Indian GP "on track"

NEWS STORY

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA), claims that plans for a Grand Prix are "on track".

The news comes at a time when Indian entrepreneur Vijay Mallya is close to buying the struggling Spyker F1 team, along with Michiel Mol.

Speaking to Reuters on Monday, IOA president Suresh Kalmadi revealed that F1 track designer Hermann Tilke is paying a tow-day visit to New Delhi, checking out possible locations for a race circuit.

"He has gone around and we have shown him a few places," said Kalmadi. "He will go back and give his views to Bernie."

"We are happy with the progress," he added. "We are on track."

It was in June that the IOA took up a conditional offer to stage a race in 2009, with Ecclestone listing a number of conditions which have to be agreed this month.

Ecclestone has made no secret of his desire to see India host a round of the World Championship, and the impending deal at Spyker will further fuel the country's interest in the sport.
