Jonathan Summerton returned to the A1 Team USA car for the first time in four months and posted the ninth fastest lap Wednesday in the A1GP open test at Silverstone's International Circuit.

Summerton's lap was also A1 Team USA's fastest of the two-day test at 1:11.047, an average speed of 116.6 mph on the 2.249-mile, 10-turn course.

Summerton, of Kissimmee, Fla., drove the entire morning session, running 51 laps, and completed another 15 to start the afternoon. The A1 Team USA car was second on the timing monitor at 1:11.868 when he got out of it in the afternoon.

"I'm happy to be back in the car," Summerton said. "Eighth this morning is pretty good considering I was just getting used to a new track and the car again. I've never been here and when you've been out of the car for a few months, it still takes a little time to get used to it again.

"It was fun getting back in and going to P2 in the afternoon."

The 19-year-old says both he and the Team are ready to go racing. Summerton drove for A1 Team USA in the final four races of last season.

"I'm confident we can put it in the top five almost every time," Summerton said.

Buddy Rice took over from Summerton and ran 1:11.875 in 36 laps.

"It wasn't, obviously, as good as yesterday," Rice said. "We were closer with the car yesterday than today. We tried a lot of things on the car. We were also working to see how close Jonathan and I are on set-up. We tried to do a lot of things to advance the Team toward the season. It was all part of the learning curve. Jonathan and I had the same issues with the car, which is good."

Eight of the top 10 quickest laps Tuesday were posted in the morning.

Rice, of Phoenix, Arizona., ran 1:11.445 for 10th in the afternoon session Tuesday.

"What I take away from this test is we put two drivers in the car and learned from both of them," A1 Team USA owner Rick Weidinger said. "It was an overall good test for us. They ran almost identical laps in the same conditions and had top-10 times on different days. We have two very good drivers. I'm pleased with how everything has gone. We have to make a decision on which driver to put in the car to start the season. We can't make a bad choice and that is going to make it a very difficult decision.

"We want to finish in the top five in the World Cup of Motorsport and win races this season. After watching the Team we've put together the past two days, those are realistic expectations."
