When Fernando Alonso's car ground to a halt just a few feet outside the McLaren garage yesterday - much to the delight of the partisan crowd in the grandstand opposite - the Woking crew wasted no time in rushing out to protect the stricken MP4/22 from prying eyes and lenses.

Before one had time to take in the fact that the World Champion had stopped, the car was surrounded by a swarm of McLaren team members, complete with screens, as media photographers and corporate guests jostled for position, eager to get a glimpse, or better still a photograph of the stricken Spaniard.

With the ongoing spy saga, one might have thought it a case of blatant espionage when a number of Honda crew members headed off to join the throng, each of them carrying a camera.

However, as the Woking boys did their utmost to block out the many lenses pointed at their car, their Honda counterparts had other things on their minds. They weren't interested in the stranded car, instead their cameras were focussed on the blonde wearing one of the shortest skirts ever seen in the Monza pitlane.

The World Motor Sport Council can rest easy.
