It has been officially confirmed that no decision will be taken on whether Lewis Hamilton will contest the European Grand Prix until Sunday morning.

Following his crash at the Nurburgring today the English youngster was examined at the circuit and then taken on to a local hospital as a precautionary measure.

The McLaren driver returned to the track at 18:05 (local time) at which time it was confirmed that whether he races will depend on an examination that takes place tomorrow morning.

Team boss Ron Dennis is confident that his protege will be fit to race. "There is absolutely no medical reason that he can't," said the Englishman. However, despite McLaren's assurances that he is OK, Hamilton will be examined by both the FIA and the circuit's own examiners tomorrow, however, it will be the circuit's own medical team that have the final say.

Should he participate, it is still not known whether he will be able to use his own race car - in which case he will start from tenth on grid - or the spare car, which means he would start from the pitlane. That said, McLaren is confident that the World Championship leader will be able to use his own car.
