Nurburgring - Qualifying Quotes

NEWS STORY
20/07/2007

Timo Glock (iSport International) Pole - After the last two weekends with scoring only two points it's good to be back at the front, on pole, and score two points: it's good for the championship. And it's good, against Lucas di Grassi and Giorgio Pantano: they are both quite strong in the races and don't make too many mistakes.

Lucas di Grassi (ART Grand Prix) 2nd - I think we are back now on the pace, and it was a good fight with Timo on the first set of tyres. We were really close, and he did a very good job on the second set and could do a very fast lap, so I just have to congratulate him and his team for getting pole at his home track.

Giorgio Pantano (Campos Grand Prix) 3rd - I am happy today with third place: I'm in the clear place to start, and I'm sure it will be a good race tomorrow for us. I'm sure we've got a good car for the race, better than for qualifying, and I'm quite sure that we will make a good start tomorrow.

Adam Carroll (FMS International) 7th - Obviously we would have liked to have gone a little bit better but seventh is not so bad and we can have a good race from there. We had a few problems which I think we can get sorted out for the race. Losing the time this morning was the same for everybody, but what we found out in qualifying about the car, we would have found in practice and done something about it earlier. We have a good idea of what to do so we'll change the car for tomorrow and hopefully have a good race.

Pastor Maldonado (Trident Racing) 8th - I'm moderately satisfied from today's session, that was surely better than the one had in Silverstone. I scored the second fastest time with my first set of tires; then, a small set-up change made while in the pits didn't pay off as we expected, so I wasn't able to improve my bast lap and keep position. I strongly believe in a good result tomorrow, as the car is well-balanced and the Nurburgring is one of the racetracks i know better.

Mike Conway (Super Nova International) 9th - It was ok for me, except the second set of tyres were much slower, so in the last half we just couldn't find the pace to improve. However I am confident that tomorrow we can move up and have a good race...

Luca Filippi (Super Nova International) 10th - It was good to begin with, but unfortunately but we had a problem. Initially though the car had good balance, so I'm happy with that, & I think we will be able to go quicker & gain positions tomorrow.

Kohei Hirate (Trident Racing) 14th - I'm not very satisfied with my grid spot. The day started in a great way, with a lap time, clocked in wet conditions, fast enough to propel me in the top-5. In qualifying, a good lap with the first set of tires made me hope for a top-10 position, but, unfortunately, an annoying understeer kept me from improving any further. I hope to reach a points finish in tomorrow's race"

Javier Villa (Racing Engineering) 15th - In free practice it started to rain after just three laps so we focused on running in the wet and we did quite well. In qualifying the track was now dry and we made a few adjustments to the car but we didn't improved very much, as we also had some fuel pump problems from the beginning. Let's hope we can improve further tomorrow.

Bruno Senna (Arden International) 16th - For sure missing the dry practice this morning made a difference for me. I was not expecting the difficulties we had today and in the wet and dry we had similar behaviour from the car which didn't make me happy. We tried to figure out how to solve it, but obviously we haven't, so we have some work to do now. It's good we have a reference from Adrian (Zaugg) so we can understand what is happening in the car and see why we are off the pace. I got my first pole here in F3 and have some experience so it's difficult to understand. F3 is obviously different to the GP2 car, but I can't see it being so different that nothing is working. I have tried quite a few different things today but nothing has worked that well, so now I need to look into it with the engineers and understand how to move forward tomorrow.

Ernesto Viso (Racing Engineering) 19th - Qualifying has been difficult and we are starting tomorrow quite a long way back on the grid. Anyway, I think we made a step forward in the car setup compared with what we had at Magny Cours even if we have to improve still further as there is some understeer and quite a lot of locking up under braking.

Jason Tahinci (FMS International) 24th - Qualifying wasn't the best because I really struggled with the car. We seem to have a major issue; Adam and I had the same problem - he managed to drive around it but I really felt uncomfortable. I tried as hard as I could but it wasn't enough. If we can solve these problems it will be much better, so we need to sit down and analyse what's happening. The feeling and balance of the car in qualifying is probably the worst car I've driven this year. Hopefully we sort the problems out and have a good race tomorrow.
