Barcelona Preview: Trident Racing

NEWS STORY
10/05/2007

Everything is ready for the grand European opening of the 2007 GP2 Series. After taking the first steps in Bahrain, all the teams and drivers moved to the Catalunya Circuit, near Barcelona, where the second race of the year is ready to take off. Trident Racing is revving up engines aware of its great potential: the team decided to leave nothing untried, and made a huge work of analysis and planning following the results of the first official on-track experiences. The initial and only 30-minute free practice session is starting tomorrow (Friday) at noon, while qualifying is set to kick-off between 16:00 and 16:30. The first race will be held on Saturday, with one mandatory pit-stop and 39 laps available for drivers to chase victory. The closing race (26 laps) is set to start on Sunday at 10:30. Both races will be broadcasted live on the satellite channel Eurosport, while Sunday's one will benefit from a second live coverage on the Italian national TV.

Kohei Hirate: If we look back at the lap times we recorded in Bahrain, a great potential is quite evident. I'm starting this weekend sure of having a good chance to fight for the top spots, counting on the good feedback we had on this track during winter testing. On race conditions the car was really fast, and I had the chance to learn the track in the best way: I'm looking forward to a great weekend.

Pastor Maldonado: Barcelona is one of my favourite tracks and, on this circuit, I was always able to fight for the win with any type of car. This keeps me optimistic about the forthcoming weekend, but the thing I count on more is the great work done by the team after our trip in Bahrain. I feel I learned more about the car and I know what racing in the GP2 Series feels like. At Al Sakrir everything was new, and I think it's normal to pay the price of inexperience.
