Narain Karthikeyan will take part in the penultimate round of the current A1GP season this weekend, making a return to the venue of his last F1 race, the Shanghai International Circuit in China.

The A1GP Shanghai, China will mark the F1 test driver's fourth event in the A1 Team India car. Karthikeyan is aiming to end the team's recent run of bad luck and secure India's first podium in the A1GP series. The team's best result of the season so far came at the Taupo Circuit in New Zealand, where Karthikeyan finished seventh in his first Feature race.

Karthikeyan, who is the only driver in this weekend's event to have taken part in the Formula One Chinese Grand Prix, last raced in Shanghai at the 2005 F1 season finale. The 2.85m long circuit is one of the longest and technically demanding circuit that A1GP visits. Designed by Hermann Tilke, the Shanghai International Circuit features a combination of long straights and slow and high speed corners which require a specific setup.

Karthikeyan commented, "This will be the first time I have driven an A1GP car at a race track I am already familiar with, which means we will be able to work on finding the perfect set up straight away. Obviously, there are significant differences between the A1GP car and an F1 car, but my experience here should help us.

"Shanghai is a technically demanding circuit, and it will be essential to find the right set up early on. We need to work hard as a team here, to ensure we are on the pace from the first practice session and achieve the results that both I and the team are capable of."

A1 Team India seatholder Yohann Setna added, "Mexico was disappointing for the team, but we are aiming for a change of fortune in China. Narain's experience of the track should help us and I think a podium is a realistic ambition."
