Spain's newest test track, the Monteblanco Circuit near Seville, is almost complete, and should be ready for business by the end of the month.

The track, which was designed by Jaime Nogué, a member of the FIA's technical commission for circuits, has official FIA approval for testing up to T1 standard, which means it is suitable for F1, and can host races up to GP2 level. Indeed, the track will host a round of the 2007 Spanish F3 Championship.

The facility, which features a number of different configurations, in addition to a sprinkler system for wet-weather testing, is the brainchild of a French businessman who lives in the area, and is clearly aimed at the F1 teams that wish to make the most of the region's excellent year round weather.

Amongst other things, the Monteblanco Circuit includes a 1.1 km 'street circuit', with plans for a hotel, golf course and apartments. Prior to the opening of the facility, the promoters are emphasising the track's advantages for team and car launches.

The opening of Monteblanco means that, along with Barcelona, Jerez and Valencia, Spain has four F1 test tracks, at a time when, thanks to the success of Fernando Alonso, the sport's popularity in the country is booming.
