Friday's two practice sessions were called off when it was discovered that cars were unable to negotiate the hairpin (Turn 8), while loose manhole covers meant qualifying was cancelled and the Sprint Race grid based on Saturday's free practice times.

All that was needed to make this the race weekend from hell was a plague of locusts, boils or hail.

Though the Sprint Race was dominated by the presence of the safety car, as officials struggled to remove the South African car, the Feature Race went some way towards making up for the earlier problems, despite numerous further safety car periods.

All in all, not the best weekend for A1 GP or Beijing.
