Brno Preview: Team Netherlands

NEWS STORY
05/10/2006

Only one week after the breathtaking opening round of the new A1GP season at Zandvoort, the second race will be held on the Czech circuit of Brno.

A1 Team Netherlands will be using the new second driver, Renger van der Zande, for the first time this weekend during the Rookie test sessions on Friday. Van der Zande was officially announced last Tuesday as Rookie and reservedriver of A1 Team Netherlands, next to lead driver Jeroen Bleekemolen (right).

Directly after arriving at the circuit the team started working to build up the garage and prepare the car. Tomorrow at 13.00 hours the first of two rookie sessions is scheduled. These will run for 25 minutes each, with a 10 minute break in between.

For A1 Team Netherlands driver Jeroen Bleekemolen it's a renewed aquaintance with the Brno circuit. He drove here before in FIA GT and DTM races. "I have had some very fine moments here, but some were not that good. I scored my first podium in the FIA GT Championship here. It's an advantage when you already know the track here. We will certainly be doing our best to have a good result here. We also hope that there will be Dutch fans here as well to cheer us on."

Renger van der Zande will be driving the 550 bhp A1 Team Netherlands car for the first time tomorrow. The 20 year old Rookie driver had a first glance at the track this morning. "I have just had a seat made and gotten to know the team further. The atmosphere is absolutely perfect. This is a massive thing, A1GP, and well organized. Tomorrow I can finally drive my first meters and I think I will go absolutely wild when I drive out the pitlane. I am looking forward to this. The circuit is looking great. I have never been here, but it is wide and fast. It resembles the Sachenring, there it also goes up and down, but I am confident."
