Renault’s chassis technical director reviews the developments on the car for Hockenheim.

Bob, what technical updates do you have on the R26 for this race?
Bob Bell: People will have seen the new front wing, which is part of our ongoing development programme. It’s not a circuit-specific part, and will be used until the end of the season. We also have new rear suspension, which is an aero and mechanical development. There have also been some detail bodywork modifications, but they take some finding!

What is the benefit of these new parts?
BB: It’s a good step. Around 1% of aero efficiency.

Have Ferrari’s recent performances put pressure on the team?
BB: No – we put pressure on ourselves! We are in a tough battle with Ferrari, but we never thought that 2006 would be a stroll in the park. We expect the constructors’ championship to go down to the wire.

What is the impact on the team’s motivation?
BB: I think it’s positive. We are motivated and tackling the races in an aggressive manner. I think we are enjoying it!

Is it hard to balance development of the R26 and the early design of the R27?
BB: Not really. We have developed a plan to allocate our resources, and we are on target. Recently, we have had a big push on development of this year’s car, but that has not impacted the R27 project. It’s right on track and, in terms of our timetable, we are in a better position than last year. In 2005, this was a new set of circumstances for us. It isn’t any more.
