Conway to replace Pla at Silverstone

NEWS STORY

It has been discovered since Monaco that DPR Direxiv driver, Olivier Pla, has suffered a more extensive and serious injury to his left hand than previously thought. The injury occurred after a qualifying accident at the Ste Devote corner when Ernesto Viso's car bounced off the barriers into the path of the DPR Direxiv car.

The unfortunate Frenchman, who bravely took the start of the race despite being in considerable pain, has in fact broken two bones in his wrist and will be out of action for up to four weeks. He is expected to be back behind the wheel with his team of two years at the Paul Ricard GP2 test in the third week of June.

DPR Direxiv has been fortunate to secure the services for the Silverstone round of the GP2 Series of 22-year-old British F3 front-runner, Mike Conway. The Briton was one of several drivers who tested with the team last December so he not only knows the team but also has valuable, albeit limited, experience of the 4-litre, V8 engined GP2 car.

Currently lying second in the British F3 Championship, the Räikkönen Robertson Racing driver is delighted to have got the chance to showcase his abilities at a track familiar to him:

"I had a short run out with the team last year and I'm very happy to have this opportunity to work with them again. It'll be a great experience racing at an F1 weekend, particularly at the British Grand Prix. I like the Silverstone GP circuit - it flows nicely, with some extremely fast corners, which will be exciting to take with the extra power.

"I'm really looking forward to racing the GP2 car. The half-hour free practice on the Friday will be the first time I'll have taken it out on slick tyres and I'm hoping to get up to speed pretty quickly before qualifying that afternoon, but my aim is to have a consistent weekend and to get a lot out of the experience."
