In all the excitement following yesterday's qualifying session, it was easy to overlook two excellent performances, namely those of Mark Webber and David Coulthard.

At a time when the sport is grabbing the headlines for all the wrong reasons, it would be entirely wrong for the superb performances of these two drivers to be overlooked.

Mark delivered an outstanding performance, proving once again that he is something of a qualifying specialist. Whether the Australian would have beaten Schumacher's time, we'll never know, however, now that the smoke has cleared he starts the Monaco Grand Prix from the front row, alongside the reigning World Champion.

When Geoff Collins predicted that Mark would finish second in the race (to Juan Pablo Montoya), we though the guy had lost his mind. Now, we are not so sure, though we doubt if it will be the Colombian on the top step of the podium later this afternoon.

David has every reason to feel "pissed off", he has driven sublimely all weekend on a circuit he clearly loves - hell, he owns most of it.

Exactly how much higher up the grid he would have qualified, had he not been impeded by Giancarlo Fisichella, we'll never know. However, following the punishments meted out to the Italian and Michael Schumacher, the Scot starts from seventh.

DC made no secret of the fact that he hated the old 'single lap' format, and it is only down to the performance of the Red Bull-Ferrari package that he has never made it into the final phase of the new format before. He might be the second oldest guy on the grid, but he's still got fighting spirit and a desire to win.

Therefore, Pitpass would like to take this opportunity to congratulate both drivers on their - largely overlooked - performances, and wish them the very best for today's race.
