In an attempt to create continuity when it comes to race stewarding, the FIA has appointed a permanent chief steward, Tony Scott Andrews, who will officiate at all events.

It is hoped that this will prevent claims, as witnessed in recent years, that the standard of stewarding appears to differ from race to race.

Previously, Mr Scott Andrews, a lawyer by profession, was one of four permanent stewards who were used on a rotational basis.

The FIA's decision could be seen as a move not only to appease teams and drivers, but a step towards meeting the manufacturers.

Meanwhile, Nazir Hoosein, who has been involved in numerous controversial stewarding decisions in recent years, has been appointed a permanent steward for the World Rally Championship.
