Whilst Anthony Davidson awaits the outcome of the (annual) tug-of-war between BAR and WilliamsF1 over Jenson button's services, Jordan's Sporting Relations Manager, former F1 star Johnny Herbert, has said that he believes the BAR test driver could be the key to Jordan's return to the front of the grid and, hopefully, the podium.

"He's the type of driver that would be a very good core part of the future here," Herbert told Reuters, "so hopefully that would be something we can get together.

"He's one that you would seriously look at and say he'd be your leader, he's one of the better ones out there for sure. That's what you need. In this day and age, in modern Formula One, you do need a proper leader."

Davidson has made no secret of the fact that he wants to race, and should Button remain at Brackley the English youngster will have to move on if he is to realize his dream.

Herbert revealed that Davidson will test for Jordan next week, following the Belgian GP.

"If we can all get together and get into a position where we can do the right deal for both of us for the future of his career and the new career with Midland, I think it will be a very positive thing," he said. "He can see if he's comfortable and so can we."

Referring to Jordan's current line-up, Narain Karthikeyan and Tiago Monteiro, Herbert said: "I guess they are in the picture but of course we've got to look at what is out there at the same time."
