DaimlerChrysler to wholly own Ilmor

NEWS STORY
02/06/2005

It's been announced that Ilmor, which builds the Mercedes engines that power the McLaren F1 team, will be a wholly owned subsidiary of the German manufacturer's parent company, DaimlerChrysler, by the end of September. It took majority control of Ilmor in 2002 following the death of company co-founder Paul Morgan.

The Northamptonshire-based company will be re-named Mercedes-Benz High Performance Engines.

Ilmor's Special Project Group and its 25% stake in Ilmor Engineering Inc., which builds engines for the Indy Racing League, will be sold to Penske Racing, Ilmor co-founder Mario Illien and Morgan's widow, Elizabeth.
