History is against Schumacher

NEWS STORY
18/05/2005

Following his retirement from the recent Spanish Grand Prix, Michael Schumacher will be fourth out on track for Saturday's qualifying session at Monaco.

At no other track on the calendar is a good qualifying position as crucial as on the tight twisty streets of the Principality.

Unfortunately, history is against the German, who has won here on five occasions.

The last time that a driver started other than 1st, 2nd or 3rd on the grid and went on to win the Monaco GP, was back in 1996, when Olivier Panis started from 14th. Due to the difficult (wet) conditions, the Frenchman was one of only 4 cars that actually finished the race.

Before that you have to go back to 1985, when Alain Prost started from 5th on the grid.

Rain is not expected at any point over the Monaco GP weekend.
