As the Court of Appeal gets underway in Paris, the sport's governing body has asked that if found guilty of cheating, BAR should be fined "at least" one million euros (£680k / $1.3m) and excluded from the remainder of the 2005 Formula One World Championship.

If found guilty, and the FIA's request implemented, it would be a devastating blow to the Brackley team and indeed for F1 which would find itself in the spotlight once again, for all the wrong reason.

It would also mean that in the remaining races, two teams would need to field a non-points scoring third car, the teams to be chosen (at random) before each event.

The four judges hearing the appeal have been named as Xavier Conesa (Spain), Vassilis Koussis (Greece), Erich Sedelmayer (Austria) and Pierre Tourigny (Canada).
