Having racked up 100 F1 victories in Bahrain last race, Renault has one of the richest histories in F1. This is the first in a new series of memorable moments.

Ever since its first F1 race in 1977, Renault has built up an almost-unparalleled track record of success in motor-sports' foremost discipline. Beginning this week, we will bring you the major anniversaries in the marque's sporting heritage – and here is part one.

The week of 18 – 25 April includes three major events in Renault's F1 history.

On 18 April 1983 Renault was celebrating Alain Prost's victory the day before in the French GP, held at Paul Ricard. After starting form pole position, the Frenchman also set the fastest lap as he led for 51 of the race's 54 tours. He finished ahead of Nelson Piquet.

On 20 April 1985 twenty years ago, a promising young driver won his first race. In torrential rain, Ayrton Senna crossed the line first at the Portuguese Grand Prix – driving a Renault Turbo-powered Lotus. He didn't do things by halves in his first win, taking pole, fastest lap and the chequers. On the same day, Patrick Tambay scored the 10th podium of his career by finishing third for Renault.

On 24 April 1982 the team celebrated an exceptional performance for the 'Régie' – a 100% Renault front row in Imola. René Arnoux took pole in 1:29.765 at an average speed of 202.128 kph, just ahead of Alain Prost.
