NEWS STORY
04/04/2005

In the wake of the recent Malaysia GP, much was made - mainly by the British media - of the fact that in scoring 3 points for finishing sixth, David Coulthard surpassed the career points total of 1992 World Champion Nigel Mansell and thereby became the 'most successful' British F1 driver.

No disrespect to the Red Bull driver, but due to the many changes to the points scoring system over the years such comparisons are pointless - no pun intended - and to all intents and purposes are misleading.

Furthermore, when we think of success do we really mean points?

As a point of interest, it's worth noting that by finishing fourth in Bahrain, Ralf Schumacher has now surpassed three-time World Champion Jack Brabham and is rapidly closing in on Jim Clark and Juan Manuel Fangio.

Go figure.
