Heidfeld to use new engine in Malaysia

NEWS STORY
07/03/2005

BMW Motorsport boss Mario Theissen has revealed that Nick Heidfeld will use a new engine at Sepang, scene of the second round of the 2005 Formula One World Championship.

"In Australia, we experienced no problems whatsoever with the BMW P84/5 engines," said the German. "After the race, both engines were absolutely fine.

Nonetheless, for Malaysia we will equip Nick Heidfeld's car with a new engine, as the new regulations allow for this when a driver doesn't make it to the finish."

Theissen confirmed that Mark Webber will use the same engine that he used in Melbourne.

The other two drivers that (legitimately) failed to make it to the finish were Christijan Albers and Michael Schumacher, it's not yet known whether they will take advantage of the new rule. However, with the F2005 due to be introduced in Spain, a new engine in Malaysia, in conjunction with the two-race rule would throw the Italian team out of sync.
