The South African A1 Grand Prix car will be officially launched on the 1st November 2004.

But for South African racing fans, the good news is that the prototype A1 Grand Prix Car will be driven in anger for the first time in the country, at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit on Saturday the 6th November 2004 at the tenth and final round of the 2004 Vodacom Power Tour season.

Sheikh Maktoum Hasher Maktoum Al Maktoum, a member of the Ruling Family of Dubai and creator of the A1 Grand Prix concept and the South African franchise holder and business personality Tokyo Sexwale will both be at Kyalami to oversee the A1 car take off on South Africa's most famous piece of tarmac. Other business personalities and celebrities will be in attendance to mark the start of the A1 Grand Prix craze that is set to take South Africa by storm.

The car, will probably be driven by South African driver Alan van der Merwe, winner of the 2003 British Formula 3 Championship.

The car will compete three laps of the 4.2 Km Kyalami GP Circuit, at lunchtime on the 6th and will be on display in the pits throughout the race day. The day will feature a full round of the Vodacom Power Tour, with South Africa's six premier racing categories in an action packed day of racing, which will bring the curtain down on one of the most exciting racing seasons in the last few years.
