Coulthard admits it's not looking good

With the future of Jaguar Racing, and indeed Jordan and Minardi, in doubt, things are looking bleak on the driver front, both for emerging talent and 'old hands'.

Speaking to Scottish tabloid, The Daily Record, at the weekend, David Coulthard, who has two more outings with McLaren, admitted that his chances of securing a drive in 2005 are not looking good.

"Nothing's forever," he said, "especially in this sport.

"Deep down I am not yet ready to quit," he continued, "but I will have to accept it if that is to be my fate.

I am not yet an F1 pensioner and I don't intend to retire," he added. "Should I not sign a contract with another team? If it's necessary I guess I may have to."

McLaren boss Ron Dennis has made it clear that he would be delighted to retain the Scot, both for testing and ambassadorial duties, and though Coulthard is desperate to continue racing he admitted that he may have to consider this option.

"We have spent eight great years together, it would be a pity to break up."
