Ricciardo confirms Silverstone F1 debut

Australian Daniel Ricciardo has confirmed that he will make his F1 race debut at Silverstone next weekend.

Following reports in the Australian media earlier today, the youngster has officially confirmed that he will replace Narain Karthikeyan in the second Hispania.

"It's pretty, pretty exciting," he told Australia's Herald Sun. "It's awesome, just awesome."

The youngster was told the news earlier today, the day before his 22nd birthday as he was waiting at Heathrow Airport for a flight to Budapest to continue his challenge for this year's Formula Renault 3.5 championship.

"To make the first one at Silverstone, it's great," he said. "It's a circuit I know well and it's just up the road from my second home in Britain."

It is unclear at this stage whether he is in the Hispania merely for the Silverstone weekend or the remainder of the season. However, Toro Rosso bosses have made it clear for some time that he would line up on the grid for the Faenza outfit in 2012.
