India dropped for 2014

Further to earlier reports, it has now been officially confirmed that India will be dropped from the F1 calendar for one year in 2014.

"If Formula One Management wants us to hold our race in March 2015 we don't have any problem with that," said Sameer Gaur, chief executive of Jaypee Sports International (JPSI), which promotes the event, in a statement.

Previously, JPSI vice-president Askari Zaidi was quoted by the Indian media as confirming the race will skip a year because holding it in March 2014 would not be commercially viable so soon after this year's race which takes place in October.

"It has been postponed till March 2015. And there is an understanding that the fifth edition will be held in March 2016," said Zaidi.

Bernie Ecclestone is scheduled to present the 2014 calendar to the FIA for approval in September, with the dropping of India and the inclusion of Russia and Austria the 2014 calendar currently consists of 21 races and while the New Jersey event is highly unlikely to happen if it were to go ahead it would bring the total up to 22 races. The previous Concorde Agreement only allowed for 20.
