Remember Premier1 Grand Prix, the series that was supposed to combine the passion of club football with the raw power and sheer adrenalin of single-seater motorsport? (Jeez we should trademark that!)

Well.... we hear that the series that everyone thought long dead and buried is about to be given extra time.

If what we hear is true, and we have every confidence that it is, a press conference should take place within the next couple of weeks, with several European football clubs re-committing to the series.

Previously, several high-profile clubs had committed to the series, including Chelsea, Feyenoord, Benfica, Barcelona and Leeds United, that's before Leeds went off into the 'kitty litter'.

When the idea was first mooted, to widespread scepticism, in 2000, several clubs signed up, but then the launch of the series was postponed, then postponed again, before everything went mysteriously quiet.

"I think it will fail," said McLaren boss Ron Dennis at the time, when asked about the chances of the proposed series' success. "I can't see any reason why it won't fail."

Expect further news in the next few weeks, though with Bernie attempting to trade mark 'Grand Prix' and all derivatives, perhaps a name change will be required.
