Schumacher forecasts Ferrari fireworks

NEWS STORY
13/09/2013

Michael Schumacher believes that Ferrari's partnering of Kimi Raikkonen alongside Fernando Alonso will be an explosive, yet entertaining, mix.

The German, who won five titles with the Maranello marque over the course of eleven seasons, and eventually moved aside for the (first) arrival of Raikkonen, had mostly compliant teammates.

Rubens Barrichello's willingness to move aside for the German, literally, caused uproar on more than a few occasions and even action by the FIA. While Felipe Massa was also a willing number two. Not so Eddie Irvine who made life a little more difficult for his illustrious teammate, most notably at Silverstone in 1999.

Having retired from the sport (again) at the end of 2012 following a three-season stint with Mercedes, Schumacher still retains a keen interest and admits to finding Ferrari's 2014 driver pairing fascinating.

"Ferrari with Fernando and Kimi sounds like an explosive mixture," he told Bild. "For motor sport fans, it will certainly mean fireworks, and for their rivals, a tough pairing to overcome. It will be exciting to watch."
