One of the driving forces behind a proposed Grand Prix in Greece has issued a statement in reaction to recent reports in the national and international media.

It reads as follows:

DielpisFormula1 rebuts all recent publications of the Greek and foreign press concerning F1 races in Greece and, more specifically, in the town of Patras, and clarifies as follows:

DielpisFormula1 welcomes the positive development concerning the construction of a circuit in Patras and, more specifically, in Halandritsa that shall be funded by the Greek Government with the sum of 28,900,000 euros.

The circuit to be constructed in Halandritsa meets the F1 specifications, without, however, fulfilling certain preconditions, such as access, accommodation, services, character, etc. and had never requested to be included in any such races. It could exclusively act as supporting circuit, provided that it fulfils the preconditions.

The official Greek candidacy is called DielpisFormula1, concerns the port of Piraeus in the Municipality of Drapersona and constitutes a private initiative and investment that not only does not burden the Greek citizens but also creates benefits for them. This proposal has been officially submitted by the Automobile and Touring Club of Greece (ELPA) following a request filed by the Mayor with FIA and Bernie Ecclestone on November 23, 2011.

On May 26, 2012, Mr. Bernie Ecclestone in a meeting held with the head of DielpisFormula1, stated his, in principle, acceptance and agreement with the above proposal (DielpisFormula1) and mentioned that the following step is just to find the investor.

On July 26, 2012, the competent Minister of Culture sent, on behalf of the Government, to Mr. Bernie Ecclestone, the Greek Government's official position with regard to the DielpisFormula1 Candidacy.

On September 3, 2012 the Deputy Minister of Development released a press release whereby the expressed his Ministry's support to the candidacy including the project in the fast track procedure.

Therefore, there is no other candidacy for F1 races in Greece save the one submitted by the Municipality of Drapetsona entitled DielpisFormula1, for which we continue our efforts unfailingly.

In the present time we are making contact with interested investors and we deem that pretty soon the procedure shall be completed, in order for the Greek dream regarding the hosting of F1 races in the Port of Piraeus to come true.
